Meet Rosalyn & Broderick Peters
Rosalyn and Broderick Peters are Army veterans who have made their home in Georgia since retirement. While attending the Georgia Master Gardener's Certification course in 2016, Broderick got the idea of becoming a beekeeper. With Rosalyn's strong & loving encouragement... the journey began.
Along the way, experienced local beekeepers including the Bee Club President tried to persuade Broderick that he needed to wait another year and take more courses. But the fire inside was already lit. He refused to accept what others said he couldn't do and jumped into his passion!
He studied beekeeping wholeheartedly, learning the importance of honeybees to our existence and the numerous benefits and uses of honey. The couple simply wanted to do their part in contributing to the sustainment of mankind.
In July 2016, just a few months after the idea of beekeeping was planted, Rosalyn and Broderick harvested 33 pounds of honey, which was given to family and friends. Everyone loved it! A family member instantly named it "R&B Honey", which is synonymous with Rhythm and Blues. But for their honey, it's their initials.
A year later... R&B Honey was distributed all over, including 19 states in the U.S. and Thailand. In 2018 and subsequent years they have expanded their apiary, increased the honey yield and now distribution includes a restaurant in Texas.
Broderick has become a member of Georgia and Alabama State Bee Associations. Both he and his wife are lifetime members of the Eastern Apicultural Society (EAS) of North America, Inc. EAS is the largest noncommercial beekeeping organization in the United States and one of the largest in the world. He has been member of several local bee clubs, one of which he was voted to serve on the board of directors.
In 2020, Broderick earned the Master Beekeeper certification, becoming one of the few African-Americans to earn that title. In 2021, he was elected to serve as President of the very bee club that tried to discourage him at the beginning. He is a sought after speaker for the local county festivals, county beekeeping courses and local schools to give talks about bees. Broderick enjoys serving as a mentor to new beekeepers.
"We trust that you will enjoy "R&B" Honey. Always believe in yourself and your abilities." #beelieveityoucanachieveit - Rosalyn & Broderick Peters
